The well-known network informant under the nickname Ice Universe, which often shares reliable and exclusive information about new products in the mobile industry, has published very interesting renders of upcoming Samsung smartphones.

Even more, interest has been aroused by the renders of Samsung’s flagship smartphones, due out next year. Presumably, they will be called Samsung Galaxy 21 and Samsung Galaxy Note 21.

To date, it is known that the series will include the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 +, and Galaxy S21 Ultra models. The fifth-generation (5G) cellular versions of these smartphones are codenamed SM-G991, SM-G996, and SM-G998, respectively. There is a possibility that the devices will include various branded processors Samsung Exynos.

A new piece of information concerns the main camera of smartphones of the Galaxy S21 family. It is alleged that it will not receive a ToF (Time of Flight) sensor designed to collect depth of scene.

There are several reasons for the decision to abandon the ToF sensor. It was expected that such a module would be useful in light of the development of augmented (AR) and virtual (VR) reality applications.

However, the potential of these technologies has not yet been fully revealed. In addition, it turned out that Samsung’s ToF solution is inferior in capabilities to a similar system in Apple devices.

Therefore, the South Korean giant decided not to use the ToF sensor in the recently announced smartphones of the Galaxy Note 20 family. This sensor will not be in the future Galaxy S21 devices either.

However, as noted, Samsung has not completely abandoned the development of technology yet. Perhaps an improved ToF solution will appear in other smartphones of the company.

Other phone specifications, features, release date, and exact price of the smartphones Samsung Galaxy Note 21 and Galaxy S21 are not officially disclosed.

In this case, Ice Universe does not hide the fact that these images only demonstrate what new smartphones can be, although there is no data on them yet. Presumably, next year Samsung and other manufacturers will launch smartphones with a front camera hidden under the screen surface.
