As you know, usually well-known smartphone manufacturers do not update their smartphones to new versions of Google’s OS for even two years, which many owners are very unhappy with, because in fact they are forced to get rid of the old phone by buying a new one, because without the updates the whole operating system will be vulnerable to hackers. The Finnish corporation HMD Global announced what no one had expected to hear. She, in fact, promised to upgrade all her smartphones to Android 10 Q, that is, the new operating system from Google, the release of which in the final form will happen in the next two weeks.
As it became known from foreign media, the leadership of HMD Global decided to extend the support period for all smartphones by one year, including the very first Android phones launched on the market several years ago. Support for such was supposed to cease in October 2019, but now, after the extension of such, it will be extended until October 2020.
- Nokia 5.2, 6.2, 7.2 (2019) with new features may be officially unveiled at IFA 2019
- Smartphone Nokia 7.2 (2019) new leak ‘confirmed’ features and design
- Nokia 9.1 PureView 5G will launch with improved features
During this period, not only new software will be released, but patches for the security system as well. The owners of such models as Nokia 5, Nokia 6 and Nokia 8 were extremely lucky, because all of them will now have to upgrade to Android 10 Q, and of course no one expected this.
Thus, based on this, not a single phone under the legendary brand will be left without a new version of its operating system, and now no other manufacturer on the market can boast of such. Support for Nokia smartphones of the 2017 model was supposed to cease at the end of 2019, but it was extended for a whole year.
It is possible that in the future this will happen again, but the likelihood of such an event is extremely small since outdated technical equipment by modern standards makes itself felt. The only HMD Global phone that will stop receiving updates after November 2019 will be Nokia 2.
The manufacturer decided not to give up its support in terms of software in order to reduce costs, but because of the extremely weak technical equipment that does not allow it to implement the full-fledged operation of Android 10 Q.
Simply put, such a phone does not meet the minimum system requirements fully, in connection with which, in fact, no one refused his support, since everything rests on hardware, and not on the desire to save money from HMD Global. Such a decision, without any doubt, will greatly please the owners of all such models, because they will not have to think about replacing the phone with a new one for at least one more year.
