LG V50 ThinQ 5G smartphone officially unveiled: Snapdragon 855, 5G Qualcomm X50 modem and … folding model emulation (updated: live photos added)
LG has officially unveiled its flagship smartphone V50 ThinQ 5G. The novelty largely repeats its predecessor, but the main thing is the first model of the company with support for 5G networks.
This year, LG is not betting on folding models, the market prospects of which are foggy, but on 5G, which is practical “here and now”. Therefore, the V50 ThinQ 5G, in theory, should offer demanding consumers everything they need: a 5G modem, a flagship SoC, high-quality cameras from five sensors and decent autonomy. But in fact, this model has little differences from the predecessor V40 ThinQ.
For example, the predecessor inherited a 6.4-inch FullVision OLED screen with a resolution of 3120 x 1440 pixels, a front-facing camera represented by a set of 5 and 8 megapixel sensors, and a rear camera consisting of three modules (12-megapixel sensor with aperture lens F / 1.5, 12-megapixel sensor with a telephoto lens with a f / 2.4 aperture and 16 megapixel with a wide-angle lens with an aperture of F / 1.9).
As already mentioned, the V50 ThinQ 5G is built on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 single-chip platform and is equipped with a Qualcomm X50 5G modem.
The amount of RAM was only 6 GB, the amount of built-in flash memory is small for the flagship – 128 GB, but at least microSD memory cards are supported.
The fashion for fingerprint scanners integrated into the screen has bypassed the V50 ThinQ 5G: it is located on the back panel. The smartphone also has an evaporating chamber for better cooling of components in active operation mode, support for wireless charging (up to 10 W), 4000 mAh battery, stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 802.11ac adapters, Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC, USB 3.1 Type- C, standard headphone jack.
The protection of both panels of the smartphone provides tempered glass Gorilla Glass 5, the frame of the device is metal. Also, the smartphone meets the requirements of the American military standard MIL-STD-810G and is characterized by a degree of protection IP68. Dimensions and weight of the model – 159.2 x 76.1 x 8.3 mm and 183 grams.
Let LG have no folding smartphone yet, but the V50 ThinQ 5G is able to emulate it, being connected to an accessory with the telling name Dual Screen.
In fact, this is the second display with a diagonal of 6.2 inches and a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels, which is connected to the smartphone via side contacts. As planned by the creators, this combination should make it easier for the user to work with several applications at the same time.
LG has not yet announced the release date of the model (it is expected to appear before the end of the second quarter) or the cost.
