Smartphones Huawei P50 and Mate 50 Pro (2021): the great changes revealed!

After TSMC stopped accepting orders from Chinese Huawei due to US sanctions, it was reported that the company’s smartphones were switching to MediaTek platforms. Now, a surprising and unlikely analyst prediction has surfaced online that Huawei may start using the Snapdragon SoC next year.

We cannot completely ignore this forecast, but we will treat it with a fair amount of skepticism. According to analyst John Vinh of KeyBanc Capital Markets, Qualcomm will be the supplier of Snapdragon SoCs for the Huawei P50 and Mate 50 series in 2021.

Of course, for this, the American manufacturer will have to be able to obtain a license from the US Bureau of Industry and Security. The analyst boldly claims that such a request will be satisfied. Additionally, Qualcomm will need to come to an agreement with Huawei on patent licenses. And the question is whether the US government will allow such a step.

The analyst noted that, many of the restrictions imposed on Huawei are designed to protect national security from threats posed by 5G Communications / Networking infrastructure and military use. We don’t believe they are targeting consumer devices and smartphones.”

Finally, the analyst noted that such a deal will definitely benefit the country. Be that as it may, if the US government does not agree to this, then Qualcomm will still win. It has enough other Chinese customers, including Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo, who are vitally interested in investing in Snapdragon to gain Huawei’s market share.

At the moment, the US conditions allow Huawei to be calm about the possibility of releasing the autumn line of Huawei Mate 50. However, we can only guess about the company’s further actions.

Recently it became known that Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp (SMIC) has begun to produce a budget Kirin 710A SoC using a 14-nanometer process technology. However, even if SMIC can keep up with the demand for the Kirin 710A, Huawei will need more expensive and technically advanced flagship smartphone solutions.

According to the latest rumors ane leaks, Upcoming flagships Huawei P50 and Huawei Mate 50 are already testing. The Huawei P50 lineup is expected to include several models: Huawei P50, Huawei P50 Pro, Huawei P50 Pro Plus and Huawei P50 Lite. This line will only be released next year, and the Huawei Mate 50 and Mate 50 Plus smartphones are expected to hit the market in the fall next year.
