Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro are the next expected flagships of the Chinese manufacturer. In particular, Huawei Mate 30 Pro should continue the legacy of the highest level of Huawei smartphones.
Just as Samsung organizes the release of its flagships, Huawei aims to release the P-Series flagship killer earlier this year, and then release a new entry in the Mate series. We expect the Mate 30 series to land this fall.
However, at present, Huawei faces some extremely difficult problems because it is included in the US Government List of organizations, which in fact hinders the conduct of business with US companies, including Google and Android. We are not sure whether the Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro will land the same way as in previous years or even land.
In any case, the following rumors are what we know (or assume to know) about the Huawei Mate 30 and Huawei Mate 30 Pro. Make sure you bookmark this page and visit it frequently, as we will update it with new information as soon as we find it.
Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro: name and launch date
The latest additions to the Huawei P series – the Huawei P30, P30 Lite, and P30 Pro – have adopted a naming convention, represented by the Huawei P20 series, jumping over ten digits. We expect that the next line of Mate smartphones will follow the same trajectory as the Mate 30 series.
In addition to Vanilla-Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro, Huawei also released the Mate 20 X last year (a giant smartphone with a game focus) and the defiantly vague name Huawei Porsche Design Mate 20 RS (an extremely expensive version of the Mate) 20 Pro with design elements Porsche). We have no information that we could offer anyway if Huawei wants to release updates for the last two devices of the 30s series, but this is a good bet.
It is very likely that the new Mate phones will be presented under the name Mate 30 and will appear somewhere in October.
Over the years, Huawei has launched the latest Mate smartphones on the market to make the most of Christmas sales. Last year, October was full of releases, such as Google Pixel 3, OnePlus 6T, LG V40 ThinQ, and some others. For Huawei, it makes sense to release the Mate 20 series in October. However, we do not have reliable information that confirms that it really will be in the game so early.
Huawei has a launch window for the Mate 30 series as “in September or October,” so we will almost certainly see it then.
Once again, Huawei’s problems with the US government cast a dark shadow on almost everything it does. It is not clear how these problems affect the sharing of Mate 30 phones.
Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro: Design
Since we are on the graph so early, it is difficult to get specific information about the design of the Mate 30 series. However, we can make some very safe assumptions for both the Mate 20 line and what Huawei did with the P30 line.
The biggest update for the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro was a three-lens rear camera located in the shape of a short camera. Judging by the excellent reviews about this camera, as well as rumors that the iPhone 2019 and the upcoming Google Pixel 4 will have a very similar design, it is safe to say that Huawei will retain the same or similar backbone design for the Mate 30 series.
It may even be an integrated optional lens, as the P30 Pro’s four-lens camera was also a great success.
It is very likely that the Mate 30 series has the same rear view camera setting as the Mate 20, and probably also has color gradients.
The current direction of premium smartphones in 2019 is to eliminate the display hacking and instead choose one of two other design options: a full-screen display with a folding selfie-camera (for example, OnePlus 7 Pro). or pinhole camera facing forward (for example, Samsung Galaxy S10 series). Since the Huawei Mate 20 had a clipping on the top that looked like an iPhone XS, we would be very surprised if Huawei hadn’t canceled it in order to keep the trendy design.
We saw several leaked visualizations that show that a stunning selfie camera will be added to the Huawei Mate 30 series. However, these transfers are at best dubious.
Models P20, P30 and Mate 20 impress with stunning color gradients. We expect the Mate 30 series to offer new gradient colors.
Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro: Specifications and Features
Assuming there are leaks in China (through IT news), the specifications of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro are significant. Since this is perhaps the most important flagship of Huawei, it makes sense.
According to rumors, the Mate 30 Pro has a 6.71-inch AMOLED display, which is huge. This display may also have a 90 Hz refresh rate, which we saw in the OnePlus 7 Pro earlier this year. With a refresh rate of 90 Hz, scrolling through applications and web pages become much smoother, and some games look sharper than on other phones, most of which have a refresh rate of 60 Hz.
The Mate 30 Pro can have a huge display with a 90 Hz refresh rate and a new Kirin 985 processor.
It is rumored that the Mate 30 Pro can also be equipped with a Kirin 985 processor and a Balong 5000 modem. The former chip is a reliable bet, as we have heard many rumors about its imminent arrival. The latest chipset will provide the Mate 30 Pro with 5G connectivity, as Huawei recently suggested.
In another place, we heard rumors that the Mate 30 Pro would have a 4200 mAh battery, identical to the Mate 20 Pro. It would be strange if Huawei didn’t even slightly increase the battery capacity, but the size of 4200 mAh is great, especially in combination with a 40-watt cable and a 15-watt cable. Huawei may not believe that this requires urgent improvement.
Finally, the Mate 20 Pro comes with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. It is very likely that these specifications will be updated, perhaps up to 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory, in order to better compete with Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi and so on.
Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro: price
Since the Mate 20 Series is probably Huawei’s premium product line, every device on the market is expected to be expensive. How expensive it is is unclear.
Perhaps the ban of the US government that Huawei is facing may lead to a change in pricing strategy. If suppliers cannot work with the company and they need sources from other sources, this can lead to higher prices. Conversely, Huawei may choose lower prices instead, or at least leave them alone.
In general, the prices of the Mate 30 series, we can not predict at the beginning of the game due to the ban of Huawei. However, we can take a closer look at last year’s Mate 20 Series prices and assume that prices are not too low. Here are the prices:
Huawei Mate 20
- 4 GB of RAM + 128 GB of memory – 799 euros – 898 US dollars
- 6 GB of RAM + 128 GB of memory – 849 euros – 954 US dollars
Huawei Mate 20 Pro
- 6 GB of RAM + 128 GB of memory – 1049 euros – 1178 US dollars
Huawei Mate 20X
- 6 GB of RAM + 128 GB of memory – 899 euros – 1010 US dollars
Porsche Design Huawei Mate 20 RS
- 8 GB of RAM + 256 GB of memory – 1695 euros – 1904 US dollars
- 8 GB of RAM + 512 GB of memory – 2095 euros – 2353 US dollars
Huawei smartphones have never been so widely represented in the United States, but the ban on feature lists ensures that we don’t even see the launch of the Mate 20 series in the United States. It is likely that the phone will be launched in Europe, the UK, the home country of China, Huawei and other countries. As a rule, Huawei runs its launches around the world, so you should expect it to happen again this year.
In addition, this information and assumptions may change due to the prohibition of Huawei. It is also very likely that we will not see the release of the Huawei Mate 20 series at all. For example, the Honor 20 Pro has no release date due to a ban. We’ll have to wait and see how things will evolve.
