After a long eight years of patent infringement disputes, Huawei and Samsung reached an amicable settlement. During all this time, both sides filed more than 40 lawsuits against each other in China and other countries. Peace between corporations was established through the mediation of the Supreme People’s Court of Guangdong Province.
Since 2011, Huawei and Samsung have tried several times to agree on cross-licensing of patents, but they could not reach a mutual agreement. On January 11 last year, the Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court ruled that Samsung mobile phones with 4G support, issued and sold in China, violated two Huawei patents.
After that, the South Korean giant appealed to the High Court of Guangdong, where representatives of two corporations repeatedly met during the year. As a result, Huawei and Samsung were able to reach an agreement on cross-licensing of patents worldwide, but under what conditions it was not disclosed.
The next step for Huawei will be making peace with Qualcomm. Representatives of the latter note that the solution of problems with Apple has opened up new opportunities for resolving issues with the Chinese company. According to insiders, the negotiations of Qualcomm and Huawei regarding patent proceedings are now in the final stage.
