Well, Apple will release iPhone 11 Pro Max this year. Last year, Apple stepped back from the established practice of naming its smartphones, abandoning serial numbers and mathematical symbols. Instead, the company’s marketers decided to compile the names of the flagship models from combinations of Latin letters resembling a clothing size chart and comparative degrees. However, apparently, such a concept did not suit Apple and Cupertino decided to change it again. I wonder how?
The French company ESR, which produces accessories for the iPhone, has published a table with an assortment of protective films for Apple smartphones in 2019, which includes the names of future devices. If you believe the presented summary, the new items will be called iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. At the same time, the base model with the serial number “11” will be the successor to the iPhone XR.

But the dimensions of new products, judging by the ESR, will not change. Despite the expected increase in the volume of built-in batteries and the placement of additional camera modules in the devices, their sizes will remain the same.
In addition, the diagonal screens will be saved. They will still be 5.8, 6.1 and 6.5 inches for the iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro Max, respectively. This means that new products are suitable for screen protectors and glass, released for last year’s models.
The concept of naming, which Apple decided to choose this year, although it looks rather unusual, should be more advantageous in the company’s view. This is primarily due to the fact that the linguistic emphasis of the iPhone XR, which gives a hint of budget, did not contribute to its popularity. A smartphone with a name that differs from the models of the mainline looked like their not quite full-fledged analog and did not cause a desire to buy it.

The planned upgrade, which is waiting for the second generation of conditionally available flagship Apple, can make a difference. Firstly, the dual camera will make it clear to consumers that this is now a high-end device. And, secondly, reckoning the smartphone to the mainline will add to it a status that it lacked in order not to remind about the compromises made in Cupertino in order to reduce its cost.
