Apple may fully revise the naming scheme for its future iPhone smartphones
This was announced by the French iPhoneSoft resource with reference to the documentation of the manufacturer of covers for ESR smartphones, which indicates the new names of Apple iPhone models.
If the information is correct, then the successor of the iPhone XR model will be iPhone 11. The new version of the iPhone XS smartphone will be called the iPhone 11 Pro, and the successor iPhone XS Max will be called the iPhone 11 Pro Max.
The new naming system makes sense, as it’s simpler and clearer than the current iPhone lineup, although the “iPhone 11 Pro Max” sounds a little awkward. According to the resource 9to5Mac, one of the publishers of leaks recently hinted that Apple may begin to add the word “Pro” in the names of future smartphones.
- iPhone 11 release date may be accidentally revealed
- Apple’s iPhone 12 2020 will come with Time-of-Flight rear cameras
- Macbook 2020 joins iPhone 12 in 5G network support

This step represents a very significant change in the way Apple positions its smartphone models in its series. At the moment, the iPhone XS is an “iPhone”, a smartphone that should be the focus of most users, while the iPhone XR is positioned as its cheaper option, something like “iPhone Lite”.
By giving the iPhone XR successor the name “iPhone 11,” Apple will place it at the center of the new series, leaving “Pro” options for more demanding customers.
